Avoidance of Contralateral Neck Irradiation in Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma: Case Report and Review of Literature

摘要

Nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) is not an uncommon disease worldwide. Definitive radiotherapy or concurrent chemoradiotherapy (CCRT) are the standard treatments. However, the large treatment field of radiotherapy with elective nodal irradiation results in adverse effects, which may lead to discontinuation of the treatment course and worsen the quality of life of the patient. Herein, we report a NPC patient who achieved a complete response of the primary tumor following involved-field radiotherapy treatment applied only to the gross tumor of the primary area and regional neck lymph nodes, and no failure was observed over the in-radiation and out-of-radiation fields.
