Accidental Entry of Nasogastric Tube Into the Trachea in an Anesthetized and Intubated Patient, Breathing Circuit Leakage Was the First Sign-A Case Report

摘要

There exists a false impression that the presence of a cuffed endotracheal tube (ETT) will stop the nasogastric tube entering into the trachea; however, the presence of an ETT, which keeps the glottis open, is actually one of the risk factors for misplacement of a nasogastric tube into the trachea. Here, we present a case of accidental misplacement of a nasogastric tube into the trachea with an ETT in place, in which no resistance was felt during insertion of the nasogastric tube. The breathing circuit leak alarm or a drop of the ascending bellow and the appearance of water vapor in the nasogastric tube may be initial signs of nasogastric tube misplacement into the trachea in anesthetized patients during mechanical ventilation.
