Picture Book With Interactive Play Toy Design: A Study of Auxiliary Mixed-Age Kindergarten Aesthetic Education

Games play an important role in children's learning stages. Diverse forms of interactive play nurture children's social relationships, foster diverse thinking, and unlock creative potential. As aesthetic education has gained increasing attention in education in recent years, this study focuses on exploring how teachers in mixed-age preschool classes can use interactive picture books to promote aesthetic education for preschool children. This study combines user research and design implementation to develop a prototype of an interactive play apparatus named Listen! Who's singing! The next step involves bringing this prototype into three different mixed-age classes for teaching field experiments and use assessments. The research results indicate that the interactive play apparatus, combined with multisensory game narratives, can enhance teachers' teaching effectiveness, stimulate greater engagement with children, promote interaction and cooperation among mixed-age children, and increase children's interest in aesthetic education. Finally, the study suggests areas for improvement in the design of this interactive play apparatus and highlights challenges and difficulties in its use in teaching. Furthermore, the research provides design suggestions for future interactive play apparatuses and aims to offer a new aesthetic teaching tool and method for teachers in mixed-age preschool classes.
