A course syllabus is an instructional planning before faculty offering a course in higher education. This study mainly adopts two methods. One is using documentary analysis to explore the contents of syllabi of 37 universities. The other is adopting questionnaire to survey 298 undergraduate students who provide the opinions about the contents and the application of course syllabi in a university. According to the findings, there are some important items including course description, textbook and reading, grading and assignment, course requirement in a syllabus. Almost students select courses by browsing syllabi, and most of all teachers interpret the syllabus in the first days of semester. Teachers also can modify the syllabus with students' opinions. Based on the above conclusions, there are eight suggestions are given to the faculty and university in order to design a course syllabus and use it efficiently in teaching process in the future.
