Cardiac donation surgery comes by chance rather than by request, so nursing staff may lack experience and have no idea about the needs for the surgery. This condition may then result in incompleteness of preoperative preparation made by the nursing staff as well as impact on the implementation of cardiac donation surgery. The above-mentioned phenomenon serves as the motivation for the improvement discussed in this paper, with this research project aiming to enhance the completeness of preoperative preparation made by nursing staff before cardiac donation surgery is performed. The findings determined that nursing staff lacked experience in making preoperative preparation for the surgery; they only possessed 65% of the knowledge necessary for the surgical procedure; they did not have dedicated surgical instrument trays and medical boxes and refrigerators for outdoor use; and additionally, related educational training was not held so that the accuracy of preoperative preparation for cardiac donation surgery only reached 59%. An intervention project was then introduced, including educational training, purchase of surgical instrument trays, acquirement of dedicated boxes and refrigerators for outdoor use, design of a preoperative preparation list, and materials baskets. After the intervention project was carried out, the nursing staff’s knowledge of the cardiac donation surgery increased from 65% to 100%, while the accuracy of preoperative preparation improved from 59% to 100%. It is expected that this project will draw more attention to cardiac donation surgery and extend the great unselfish love of donors to others. Moreover, it is hoped that the nursing staff taking part in such surgery can adopt a more cautious and serious manner.
