For most patients with ventilator support, weaning from the ventilator is easy and rapid, but it becomes more difficult for patients who suffer from the diseases of cardiovascular, pulmonary, central nerve system or muscular system. To face this challenge, medical personnel have to understand the factors relating to the failure of weaning. However, most of the literatures focus on physical factors instead of the feeling and emotional reaction of the patients. With the concept of mind-body interaction, one can realize that physical and psychological aspects are correlative and interactive, and the influence of social and cultural aspects are also very important. This article uses the view of mind-body interaction to help medical personnel understand the signs, symptoms, reactions, and feelings of patients in the process of weaning them from the ventilator. It is hoped that based on this understanding they can provide holistic care to their patients.
