Gamma Knife Stereotactic Radiosurgery and Nursing Care

Gamma knife stereotactic radiosurgery is increasingly accepted as a powerful neurosurgical tool. Current indications for gamma knife surgery are numerous and new indications are continuously emerging. The nurse remains the liaison with the patient from the pretreatment period right through to the follow-up visits. Patient teaching and management skills are the necessary interventions in this role. This article provides a guideline for neurosurgical nurses on clinical care in this area.
