Due to cost containment by the national healthcare insurance, the numbers of ambulatory surgical patients are increased year by year. Recently, providing nursing care by the patients' needs becomes the important point in surgery room. The purpose of this descriptive and correlation study is to explore the nursing needs of Gynecologic ambulatory surgical patients and their level of satisfaction to service during the whole surgery period, and related factors. From March to September 2008, the convenience sample of 88 patients was surveyed in the Gynecologic outpatient department of a medical center in the southern Taiwan. The results showed (1) The mean of nursing needs in whole surgery period was 3.39 (SD=0.35). (2) The mean of satisfaction to the service was 3.34 (SD=0.48). (3) Patient's nursing needs had a positive correlation with their occupation. The satisfaction of patient service had positive correlation with the anesthesia method. In addition, the satisfaction of patient service were related with obtaining information about operation procedure, disease, and treatment. Therefore, the nurses should actively provide nursing intervention, related information, and mental support to ambulatory patients in whole surgery periods.
