This article described a perioperative assessment on a young female patient who underwent total thyroidectomy due to papillary thyroid cancer. The goal was to evaluate the patient's uneasiness and doubt of this surgery, and after assessment, the established health problems were anxiety, potential risk of injury, and insufficient and incorrect knowledge. In preoperative phase, the author relieved the patient's surgery-induced anxiety with continual care and thoughtful mental support, and thorough explanation of surgical procedure according to the patient's condition. During intraoperative phase, comprehensive protection measures were applied as precaution to prevent injuries arisen from surgical positioning and electric cauterization. In postoperative phase, information and health education on self-care post-thyroidectomy were provided in detail. The perioperative care given had covered the comprehensive needs of the patient, improving the patient's confidence to face surgery, and return to regular life activities.
