This article examines the nursing experience of a young woman in the terminal stage of gastric cancer recurrence, accompanied with abdominal tumor compressing against the intestines and bone metastases. The author used Gordon's eleven functional health patterns to establish that the main health problems were chronic pain, malnourishment, and feeling of despair. Through discussions with the medical team, the treatment and caring strategies were adjusted. From the beginning, the case wasn't able to accept that her condition was terminal. Through palliative medical consultations and sufficient communication with the patient and her family, we implemented holistic health care to help the patient stay positive toward the impact derived from the illness. Based on this experience, Wwe suggest that the quality of care for patients with terminal cancers can be improved by learning nursing skills through interdisciplinary consultations and experience sharing.
