Cultural care is to apply cultural knowledge and background in making nursing care decision that maintains patients' health and wellbeing. In order to understand the influence of culture on parents of children with cancer, nursing staffs are required sensitive to the cultural context of the parents. Taiwanese inherit the Eastern culture; most of them understand illness and medical outcome, and make health decision highly based on the philosophy of ”Ming (Life)” and ”Yun (Luck)”, and the religious values of ”Ru (Confucianism), Dao (Taoism) and/or Fo (Buddhism)”. This article is to analyze the interpretation of illness on parents of children with cancer getting from the Eastern and the Western medical context and cultural perspective in order to make further reflection of nursing practice and to determine the future improvement of nursing care.
