Cancer has been the leading cause of death in Taiwan for recent years. In order to elevate the continuity and integrity of care, the oncology case management models have been developed and applied to cancer care in recent years. Case management is a case-centered care model which involves a multi-disciplinary team approach. This integrated approach could provide improved quality and cost-effective care to cancer patient. The specific disease-based model is the most common oncology case management model in Taiwan. The training course and certification for oncology case managers were established by the Taiwan Nurses Association in cooperation with the Taiwan Oncology Nursing Society. The nursing case manager should assume the additional roles of a care coordinator, a counselor, an education instructor, in additional to her traditional role as an oncology nursing expert.
