Women participated in this study are from a cancer association in Taichung. A total of 6 single mothers with breast cancer diagnosis ≥ 5 years and mastectomy or chemotherapy were included. Each woman was given 2-3 in-depth 60-90 minute interviews. Content analysis of interview data revealed three issues: (i) double stress from the single-mother role and cancer burden, (ii) integrating causal viewpoints with self-image adjustment, and (iii) turning adversity into survival values. We hope our finding can help the nursing professionals to acknowledge the multifold stress of the single mother breast cancer survivors and thus learn to accommodate their needs. Consistent follow-up for assessment and social support are also needed. We encouraged the six women to participate in voluntary activities to help promote the survival value in themselves as well as in others.
