Research on Competitive State Anxiety and Sport Confidence of Wheelchair Tennis Players

This study was to explore the relationship between competitive state anxiety and sport confidence of wheelchair tennis players. Subjects of this study include 34 tennis players of both sexes, who took part in the 2003 President Cup Wheelchair Tournament. Statistics were derived via CSAI-2 and TSCI. Variance analysis was conducted with independent sample test, Pearson Product-Moment Correlation and stepwise multiple regression method. The results were as follows: 1. There was no significant difference for sex variable; group with senior years-of-tennis player has higher sport confidence; open group has higher sport confidence than group A; group with upper ranking has higher sport confidence. 2. There was no significant difference for competitive state anxiety and competitive somatic anxiety variables; Variance of cognitive sport confidence was significant for competitive confidence variable, while players with better self-confidence have higher sport confidence. 3. Competitive state anxiety and sport confidence were negatively related; competitive confidence and sport confidence were positively related. 4. Competitive confidence was the main predictive variable for sport confidence.
