After closing for years, the Foundation Park around National Science and Technology Museum was finally reopened to the citizens in Kaohsiung in late August. This not only brought the citizens another place for recreation and relax but also predicted the soon opening of National Science and Technology Museum. The opening process of the Museum has been divided into three phases. In the first phase, Technology Education Center was opened, the reopening of the Foundation Park was next, and finally in the third stage, Exhibition Building and IMAX 3 D Theater of the National Science and Technologies Museum will be formally opened to the public. Now that the completion of the first and second phases has made people curious while the best part is yet to come. The opening of National Science and Technology Museum would definitely on a whirlwind of technology research.
Celebrating the reopening of Foundation Park, this Museum held a series of activities called ”Green Invitation” which were originally scheduled on the 31st of August, but postponed to the 21st of September because of a typhoon. The host had the propaganda flags of ”Green Invitation” set up all around the park so the whole place was filled with the atmosphere of celebration and festival. The postponement did not dwindle the heat for the activity, instead, it further strengthen public’s expectation. The Curator, the staff and the volunteers all took part in the rehearsal, hoping to have the perfect performance on this special day.
Before 6:30 am of September 21st, all the staff had arrived to decorate the location while the volunteers came later. The gate was decorated up and served as the reception place. ”Painting the Museum” sign-up stands were set up at both sides of the gate. Right before 8:00, receptionists and volunteers stood around the reception gate, ready and anxious to greet the VIPs who were going to plant trees. Mr. Wang Yu-yung was the first arriving guest, followed by Kaohsiung City Mayor Wu Tun-yi, and other 39 tree-planting VIPs.
The reception place of ”Painting the Museum” activity was also crowded. Children accompanied by parents received sketch paper and went off to their chosen spots. They devoted themselves to bring beauty and majesty of the Museum or the grandeur of ”Green Invitation” activity out on the paper. While the kids were painting, parents passed on drinks to them or instructed their painting here and there. It was such a heart-warming sight. All the winning paintings from ”Painting the Museum” will be shown on the opening ceremony of the Museum. The winning paintings from ”Future City” will be shown in the hail of ”Dwellings and the Environment” for a long time.
On the other side, after planting trees, the VIPs went to the rest area located in front of the round square, waiting for the ceremony to start. The President of the Museum, Mr. Wang Ching-po, gave a speech first in the ceremony. He thanked all the audience for coming and supporting this activity and encouraged the staff to keep working so that the Museum affairs can go smoothly. Following the speech, Major Wu, Chief Secretary of Ministry of Education, Mr. Chen Chin-hsung, all gave speeches. Major Wu said, the establishment of the Museum not only provided a wonderful place for recreation, it would also boost prosperity in Kaohsiung and promotes culture and education level of the citizens.
After the speech, the Museum awarded three manufacturers for their contribution and participation who were Top Plaza Department Store, Bank SinoPac and Jen Yuan Company. Then came the wonderful programs. The first program was performed by the students from Chung-Chen elementary school orchestra. Their peach red and indigo blue ancient style uniform and single-minded expression while playing festive numbers formed an interesting contrast with the modern image of the Museum. The VIPs entered into the celebration hall accompanied by the music. It was filled with happiness and celebrations. This day was indeed the big day for the Science and Technology Museum!
The next program was performed by the students from Nan-tzu elementary school whose performance delivered the beauty and power in Martial Arts. With the change of the background music, the children started to play Chinese flying bell, which danced around and between their hands in the same rhythm. There were even some difficult level movements played by two people. No wonder this performance had won the hearty ovation from the audience.
The dancers from Shin Shin dance school came out with bright green ancient Chinese costume and peach red feather fans in their hands, they showed the dance of feather fans to everyone with sweet smiles. All in a sudden, time and space has changed to Europe. They waltzed away in European style tuxedoes and big puffy skirts. It was like in a royal palace.
Looking to the tent on the west side, a huge green baby dinosaur had conquered the tent because a family game was about to start. Family had to win five different games to join the raffle and get a mysterious gift.
Volunteers with orange vests on were waiting at the first spot ”Knowing the National of Science and Technology Museum” where kids had to answer questions about manners and rules when visiting a museum. After giving right answers, they quickly ran to the second game ”Blowing Ping-Pong” to blow a ping-pong ball in a glass full of water to another glass. Kids tried their best blowing, and mothers with puffed cheeks getting nervous behind them. Some got water splashing all over their faces and it really tickled the grandparents. At the third game ”Lift Up the World”, children picked out two countries with the same weight and placed them on a scale. If the scale was balanced, they passed. Kids did not sweat over this one, and they all grinned proudly. The fourth one was a bit fore difficult because players had to scoop all the fishes in one tank to the others. We saw fishes flying in the air and heard something like ”OOPS!” or ”One more fish here!” all the time. Finally, after the family cooperated with each other and cheering, they passed this game and went on to the lat challenge, which was a piece of cake. They just had to give the ”Password”! As they won every game, one stamp on the game cards would be given to them. After collecting five stamps which became the sentence: ”I Love the Science and Technology Museum”, they had a chance to win environmental bags, tissue boxes, pencil cases, mugs, Museum T-shirts or kites. These shiner prizes made children take up one challenge after another and they almost hated to quit.
The park is always open to everyone where you can relax in the hectic city life.
