「全球化」的方法論與反方法論

摘要

全球化是一種跨疆界現象，有關研究議程已經進入所有的學科，但全球化論述中對疆界是怎麼來的，較少探究。對全球化有興趣的研究者到了必須正視自己方法論的時候了。全球化作為方法論的威力，在於能挖掘並翻譯地方特色，引導在地人設想自己進入全球位置，人們於是脫離既有文化來理解或實踐自己，固然好像也成功地跨越疆界，但又形成自我異化。除了批判理論以外，目前有兩種既存的批判角度，在設法因應自我異化的壓力，一種是以抗拒異化為出發點的後殖民主義，另一種是以徹底顛覆為目標的後現代論述，他們各自構成反全球化的一種方法論視角。全球化、後殖民與後現代主義之所以能夠對話，是因為他們共同在處理關於身分差異的問題：經由對每條疆界內之差異進行翻譯，全球化的研究議程得以佔據某種跨疆界的普遍性論述高權；經由將地區差異加以典範化而成為無所不在的混血，後殖民的研究議程抗拒了普遍論述的優越性；經由將主流價值偶然化成為一種遊戲，後現代的研究議程鑿開了普遍與差異之間的隔閡。

Globalization, understood as the expansion of a discursive hegemony that simultaneously constructs, represents, and penetrates differences, powerfully locks the local into exotic identities. The postcolonial critics resist the identities thus imposed on them. At the same time, they refuse to ally with nationalist essentialism in defining the self. In comparison, the postmodern writers read into the globalizing hegemony all kinds of possibilities of opening up. Resistance becomes practically redundant for the latter. This paper discusses the rarely attended methodologies of the cultural studies, by highlighting globalization as a translating mechanism, postcolonialism as a hybridity injector, and postmodernism as a subaltern empiricist. It touches upon issues that can potentially feed the agenda of the cultural studies.
