This article aims to investigate how German media philosopher "Friedrich Kittler" looks at the relationship between writing and writing technology. It is based on the inspiration from media theories, which deals with the relationship between human beings and technology. This article in particular focuses on the second stage of Kittler's academic life, discussing the writing discourse network before and after the advent of typewriters. Section two of this article provides an overview of Kittler's standpoint on media and his discussion of writing. Section three synthesises the discussion of how typewriters changed writing, as well as how they influenced the everyday life of women at that time. Section four tries to analyse whether and how e-readers (e.g. the Kindle, iPad, etc.) influence the relationship between human beings and reading in terms of Kittler's approach to writing. The final section concludes this research.
