A multi-slice computed tomography scanner (MSCT) was used to detect the presence of coronary artery calcification, and statistical analysis was utilized to correlate the severity of coronary artery calcification with cardiovascular risk factors for Taiwanese residents. A total of 2034 samples were collected, from May 2004 to January 2007. The five risk factors with the most abundant data were used. A contingency table and multiple regression analysis showed. the severity of the calcification of the coronary artery was highly related to gender (P<0.001). Increasing age (P<0.001), uric acid (P<0.05) and triglycerides (P<0.01) were also significantly correlated with the severity of calcification. The results indicate that the level of coronary artery calcification severity is significantly correlated with advanced age, gender, AC blood glucose, triglycerides, and uric acid; it is indirectly correlated with cholesterol. A coronary artery calcification scan can quantify risk and enable early treatment, thus preventing the development of serious or fatal cardiovascular diseases.
