Well-known Buddhist of Qing Dynasty, Monk Dashan, and his Overseas Stories are important in Lingnan Buddhism history and overseas transportation history. However, there are two opposing evaluations on him and his book. Current research mostly focuses on his Buddhism and spread of Buddhism. Some essays discussed his poetry and painting. However, it lacks the study on navigation writing and overseas transportation in Overseas Stories. This study first elaborates life of Monk Dashan and issues related to Overseas Stories as the base of discussion. Subsequently, it explores navigation writing content in Overseas Stories in order to clarify navigation record from Guangdong to Hue, the central of Dai Viet, in Qing Dynasty.
