The study aims to explore Shenzhi Poetry, a witty literary style based on the changeable shape of Chinese characters. Su Shi, the literatus of Song Dynasty, was believed to be the creator of this kind of poetry. In Sang Shichang's Categorized Collection of Palindrome Poetry, Shenzhi Poetry was described as ”readers understand the poems by their visual experiences on Chinese characters,” which has been cited in many literary works throughout the history. However, this description could only reflect the objective of Shenzhi Poetry, on which people had no further comments. Therefore, this paper firstly defines the meaning and scope of Shenzhi Poetry and its history. Next, the structure and principle in writing are identified and shown with examples. Then, Shenzhi Poetry's significance and its derived value are discussed in this paper.
