1. The possibility of war between the two sides across the Taiwan Strait has been greatly reduced in the wake of the detente conducive to Taiwan's party rotation and the start of the ”Three Big Links” between Taiwan and China.2. The fortification of military readiness is Taiwan's first priority so that peace between the two sides could be maintained. It also renders the government important bargaining chips during peace talks.3. The two sides have to break through the stalemate of mutual trust between the two militaries, bring in new thinking and method, and construct a new discourse with regard to the Cross-Strait relations.4. This paper reviews the trends and development of the two sides' strategic postures, and proposes an understanding that the military personnel ought to have with a view to strengthening the will of fighting adversaries.
