The development of PLA's carrier contains various strategic intents. Politically, the development shows Chinese power in the world and maintains its authority; militarily, Beijing will enhance its weight on dealing with the territorial conflicts and fulfill Military deterrence; economically, China will gain more businesses from shipbuilding industry to promote its economic grow. This paper starts with the road of development of PLA's aircraft carrier and further probes on Liaoning ship, PLA's first aircraft carrier, to see whether it is able to meet the needs of PLA's national defense and strategic intents. Finally, this paper will provide an evaluation of PLA's aircraft carrier program.
