摘要

Rescuing the car accident individual or arresting the HIV (+) crime, police officers were under the risk of being infected by HIV virus. However, few study explored the HIV/AIDS knowledge base and education needs among policy officer. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the HIV/AIDS knowledge base and the effectiveness of an education program among southern Taiwan police officers. One-group pretest-posttest study design was used. After the pretest, all the participants received the education program that included a 15 minutes video and 30 minutes lecture on HIV/AIDS. After this education session, all the participants were requested to fill out the post-test. A total of 1,522 questionnaires were collected with 1,020 (67.0%) completed. Sixty-four percent of participants indicated that the HIV virus could have infected them during performing their duties. The average score of participates on the pre-test was 14.3 (SD=3.3) and the post-test was 16.6 (SD=3.4) with total 22. The main resources of HIV/AIDS knowledge were from media reports or newspaper, few from school. The results of ANOVA tests indicated that age, education, and possible being infected had statistically difference in the level of pre-test HIV/AIDS knowledge but no difference in the knowledge gain after HIV/AIDS education. Pair-t tests revealed a statistically significant improvement in knowledge score after the education program (t=23.24, p<0.001). The study findings confirmed the police officers receiving HIV/AIDS education increased their knowledge and the knowledge gain did not related to any demographic data.
