Lycopene was demonstrated to has antioxidant capacity. The purpose et this study was to investigate the effect of lycopene on antioxidative status in mice. Six-month-old senescence accelerated male mice were divided into four groups: control group、4、20、100 ppm lycopene (experimental group). After 12 weeks of feeding, body weight, food intake, drink amount were performed during the experiment. The activity of superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase and malondialdehyde (MDA), total thiol concentrations in the liver were analyzed after sacrificed. The results showed that there were no significant differences in the body weight, food intake were no significantly among four groups. The drink amount of experimental groups were higher than the control group (p<0.05). The SOD activity of liver, 20、100 ppm lycopene groups were significantly higher than control group (p<0.05). The liver catalase activity of 20 ppm lycopene group was significantly higher than control group (p<0.05). The MDA concentrations of liver in the 20、100 ppm lycopene groups were significantly lower than control group. From the findings of these results, the supply of lycopene may improve antioxidative system on liver in SAMP8 mice.
