Religion in Dialogue with Science

並列摘要

In this paper I attempt to discuss the conflicts between religion and science in the history of Christianity. It is my contention that if religion and science are properly distinguished in terms of object, method, purpose and limitations, there shoud be no conflict between the two. Each belongs to a different sphere of life .Although there are differences between the two, this does not mean that there is no relationship between the two. In fact, each has something to contribute the other. Religion and science are not contradictory but complementary. Religion needs science, and science also needs religion. Therefore, there shoud be a dialogue for mutual understanding and mutual cooperation. There have been many conflicts between religion and science in the fields of astronomy, geology, medical science, and biology. The conflict between creationism and evolutionism is still a problem in our times. These conflicts are rather unfortunate and can be avoided. A dialogue between religion and science is needed for mutual understanding. The purpose of this paper is to argue that religion and science are not contradictory but complementary. Religion has something to contribute to science, and vice versa. Therefore, a cooperation between the two is not only possible but also necessary for the peace of the world today.
