July 1st, 1997, the Great Britain returned Hong Kong, whose ceding to Britain a historical product of one-hundred-year unequal treaties, back to the possession of the People's Republic of China. Since then, Hong Kong has been given a new identity on the world stage-the Special Administration Region of the People's Republic of China. However, before 1950, the Republic of China (R.O.C.)government's attitude toward taking back Hong Kong had been determined, consistent, and relentless, a part of history should not be left out of people's memories. This article will offer a review of the negotiation and conflicts between China and UK over Hong Kong's sovereignty since the Republican China, from the points of the three core countries-China, Britain, and the United States which were mostly related to the HongKong issues. A detailed description will be offered on Commander Chiang Kai-shek's efforts to reclaim possession of Hong Kong following Japan's surrender. The dispute ended on concession from both sides; despite the R.O.C. government's failed attempt to reclaim HongKong, Commander Chiang and the R.O.C. government's efforts should be given appropriate acknowledgements.
