In this paper, I would like to describe the form of the dynamic interaction between the story of Ch'en Shou and Feng Meng-Long's short story ”The Couple Bound in Life and Death”, and try to analyze how the former was concretized by the later. In a Ming writer, Xu Hao's ”The Diary of Fu Zhi”, there is a brief story about Ch'en Shou. This story was then rewritten by Feng Meng-Long into a short story ”The Couple Bound in Life and Death”, collected in the anthology ”Xin Shi Hen Yian”. Later on, the Feng's story interested numerous readers and it has been adapted by playwrights or criticized by scholars in Qing dynasty and modem days. In this paper, the discourse mentioned above will be regarded as the readers of the Ch'en Shou story, and attempt to explore the reading strategy that ”The Couple Bound in Life and Death” adopted with Reception Aesthetics and Narratology Theory.
