More on the Origin of the Ethnonym y∂mypт A new etymology is presented for the ethnonym y∂mypт, arguing that both its components are loans from Iranian languages. The first component y∂ corresponds to the Ossetian word y∂, in dialects also o∂ 'soul; life', cf. y∂zoümaz 'man, human being', y∂bl xaü 'swife', y∂bl xbæ 'character' etc. As for the final component mypт the author supports the traditional etymology: Udm. mypт<Permic *mort 'man, human being', which is an Indo-Iranian loan.
