Patients with arthritis often suffer from pain, contracture, muscle weakness and joint instability, resulting in physical disability and problems in activities of daily living & occupation. Although medications and surgery could solve some of the problems, the side effects and complications concomitant with the therapies and the limitation of therapy indication make rehabilitation becomes an important part of arthritis management. In this article, we will focus on the application of exercise, physical modality, hydrotherapy, spa therapy, orthotics, assistive device and patient's education in arthritis rehabilitation. We will also discuss briefly on rest, environmental manipulation and occupational conselling. Besides, there will be a discussion about the rehabilitation for specific arthritis problems such as polyarthritis (acute, subacute & chronic stage), spondylitis, and monoarthritis involving major weight-bearing joints of the lower limb.
