It is very important to discuss Complementary and Alternative Medicine (defined by NCCAM as a group of diverse medical and healthcare systems, practices, and products that have not been considered to be part of conventional medicine), because CAM is widely used by patients. Currently CAM is not widely accepted as part of conventional treatment despite some existing scientific evidence supporting the effectiveness of a number of CAM therapies. It is very important to adopt those CAM therapies that are proven to be safe and effective into conventional treatment methods. As these new approaches to health care emerge, taking a closer look at some of the CAM therapies based on the current etiology, prevention and treatment of cancer has become more important than ever.
