Women are often asked to decrease physical activity during pregnancy. The reasons given for this include avoiding a bad outcome to the pregnancy and adverse effects on fetal development. The article describes the effects of exercise on pregnant women and fetuses using the four components of the FITP principles, namely frequency, intensity, time, and type, in relation to exercise during pregnancy. This may be useful to doctors and nurses, especially when counseling women during pregnancy.
