The American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology guidelines for exercise during pregnancy state that pregnant women without medical or obstetric complications should continue to exercise. Currently, there are no data confirming that exercise during pregnancy either harms or benefits the fetus. There are no literatures of pregnant women’s exercise counseling model. This article reviews and integrates related literatures to construct an exercise counseling model for pregnant women. The pregnant exercise counseling model would have these features: (i) health status, pre-pregnancy BMI and GWG (gestational weight gain), exercise habits, demographic data, intention status, environment, exercise beliefs and intention; (ii) definition of target problems; (iii) planning and prescription of exercise; (iv) implementation and monitoring and (v) evaluation. The counseling model provides guidelines for health and sports-and-recreation staff members to follow in promoting women’s exercise during pregnancy.
