Sensory stimulation improves the quality of life of severely ill and disabled residents staying in long-term care facilities. In this project, we aimed to escalate the correct rate of sensory stimulation conducted by caregivers. Through on site observation and analysis, we identified several problems in caregivers on correctness of conducting sensory stimulation, namely, insufficient recognition of the health issue, unfamiliar of the techniques, lack of detailed operating procedure, and no audition mechanism. We planned the following solutions: hold educational training, provide on-site practice, make posters and teaching movies, and establish standard operating procedures and audition mechanism. Implementation of the above strategies improved the correctness of sensory stimulation from 61.1% to 93.5%. We conclude that the intervention was effective in improving the correct rate of caregivers in conducting sensory stimulation in bed-ridden residents.
