Cadmium (Cd) is a heavy metal that is toxic to plants. Cd is also known to have negative effect on human health. Cd is absorbed by rice roots and transported to the grains, which results in considerable Cd accumulation when grown on Cd polluted soil. Therefore, an understanding of the Cd accumulation mechanisms in rice plants is required. In this review, we briefly discuss the roles of Cd transporters involved in Cd accumulation of rice plants.
