An Administrative Perspective on the Transition of In-Person Class to Online Learning for Chinese as a Second Language during Coronavirus Epidemic

This paper aims to explore the effectiveness, challenges, and feedback of the transition made at the Mandarin Training Center due to COVID 19, from in-person teaching to online teaching. The results show that (1) teachers and students approve of the quality of the online learning and administrative assistance (2) less than half of the students agree that online learning can achieve their learning goals and build interaction with fellow classmates (3) most of the teachers and students were satisfied with using the controversial Zoom as a learning platform (4) the greatest challenge met by the teachers and students is the stability and quality of the internet, noise interference, and the teacher's ability to use online technology for teaching. Based on the survey results and relevant literature studies, this study can help provide a better understanding for the Chinese teaching community on how to improve administrative planning to assist online teaching.
