This study explores the relationship between knowledge attributes and technology licensing models. Choi, Bundy and Wank (2004) proposed five different models of technology licensing, but the reasons for forming different models remain unclear. Through case studies, premises of the five models were identified, and the degree of knowledge independence, discrimination, paradigm, and economies of scale are found to be the main causes of licensing models. Propositions about knowledge attributes and technology licensing models were proposed according to the resource dependence theory.
