Effects of High Ambient Temperature on Energy Efficiency in Data Center

並列摘要

A system model study is performed to examine HTA (High Temperature Ambient) characteristics of energy efficiency and energy cost of CHT's Yong-Kong DC (Data Center). The effects of the HTA operation parameters for chilled-water supply temperature, IT supply temperature and variable frequency fan/fixed speed fan (CRAH (Computer Room Air Computer Handler)), are explored in the present study. The results revealed that HTA DC model 2 (IT supply temperature 24℃, chilled water supply temperature 18℃ and variable frequency fan (CRAH)) has been optimized as a result of improved energy efficiency in the DC. The cooling energy consumption for HTA DC model 2 could be improved by 14% relative to that of Yong-Kong DC model (IT supply temperature 16℃, chilled water supply temperature 7℃ and fixed speed fan (CRAH)). With a change in chilled-water supply temperature, IT supply temperature and CRAH design, respectively, from 7℃, 16℃ and fixed speed fan (CRAH) to 15℃, 24℃ and variable frequency fan (CRAH) an annual energy cost decrease from NT$36.143M to NT$34.71M was observed. A system model provided an efficient way to characterize the energy efficiency and energy cost for DC; the results will benefit the future design of HTA DC.
