醫院設置院牧在許多西方國家的醫療單位,早已行之有年,以專門照顧與處理病人靈性健康的問題。近年,在全人健康理念推動下,美、加等國健康組織與醫療促進會更紛紛聲明醫療單位有責任提供靈性照顧之專業服務。台灣醫療體系中除基督教醫院設有院牧部門,院牧(與宗教師)制度並未普遍化,大多數的醫院都沒有專業院牧的設置。爲使台灣醫療主管單位、醫療工作者及一般大眾對基督教專業院牧有更深的瞭解,本文除簡單介紹西方院牧工作的起源、發展與訓練,主要從四方面討論院牧的角色功能,包括:一、院牧對病人與家屬的貢獻;二、院牧對醫療團成員的貢獻;三、院牧對醫療機構的貢獻;四、院牧對社區的貢獻。本文主張積極建立專業院牧的制度,以具體實踐全人照顧理念,使信仰不同宗教的人,在台灣任何一個病榻上,都能獲致專業靈性照顧者的照顧。
It is the hospital chaplains' job to provide religion direction and spiritual care to patients as required in many Western countries traditionally. In recent years, accrediting organizations mandated that healthcare institutions have to further ensure that patients' spiritual beliefs and practices are assessed and accommodated. The purpose of this article is to introduce Christian chaplaincy system by providing an overview of the history, development, qualifications of hospital chaplaincy firstly. The following sections describe some of the contributions chaplains can make in providing spiritual care to benefit patients, families, health care team and the organization and the community. At the end of the paper, We recommend hospitals and the institute of medicine of Taiwan redesign the health care systems which involves creating a chaplaincy care team. By collaboration with physicians, nurses, and other staff, chaplains can provide high quality spiritual care and help health care team to reach the goal of holistic health care.
