Cancer-related fatigue (CRF) is one of the most prevalent symptoms in patients with advanced cancers. This symptom can adversely affect patient's quality of life. There are several factors that may cause cancer-related fatigue, including cancer itself, side effects of anti-cancer treatment, anemia, abnormal soft tissue metabolism, cytokines imbalance, endocrine disorders, and psychological issues. All reversible causes should be ruled out and treated appropriately. CRF can be treated with pharmacologic and nonpharmacologic measures. This article mainly focuses on the clinical evidence-based pharmacologic treatments, including corticosteroid, central nervous stimulants, and botanically-derived extract of Astragalus membranaceus.(Taiwan J Hosp Palliat Care 2011:16:2:217-227)
