This paper aims to develop a finite element model to analyze material loss from brittle erosion. There has been large number of experiments conducted to predict the amount of material loss due to erosion. But many restrictions apply in implementing these empirical relations. For that reason, the erosion process, here on oxide layer, should be modeled in an analytical manner to develop a parametric study by using suitable failure criteria. The method is that the elements that have reached the maximum principal stress reaches either the uniaxial tension strength, or the uniaxial compression strength, enter the plastic region to be chosen as judgmental elements and are thus accounted for material loss. A 3-D finite element model with brick elements is built to simulate transient dynamic analysis of single and multiple particle erosion by using ANSYS LS-DYNA.
