The purpose of this paper is to explore the problems and the solutions of the general education at the institutes of technology. After carefully studying, we found that the crises of the general education include the curriculum, the teaching faculty, and the social and educational structure. Thus, the solutions of improving the general education must be based on (1) the formal curriculum, including the improvement of curriculum structure, teachers' and students' attitudes toward the general education, and the innovation of teaching methods; and (2) the hidden curriculum including the campus environment, school organization and its operation systems, democratic campus culture, tutor system, extra-curricular activities, and school dormitory life. Finally, we also found that how to establish an identity spirit on the value and necessity of the general education is of great importance.
