摘要

新時代運動（New Age Movement）興起於一九六○年代的美國，是一個跨越宗教、靈性、心理、健康、環保與社會參與的綜合性運動。當時是少數另類的社會與文化運動，經歷二、三十年的發展之後，已經成為西方社會中主流文化的一部份，並且這個運動向外擴散成為全球性的傳播。新時代運動所涵蓋的各種觀念與實踐的普及與流行，反映了西方社會與文化的變遷趨勢，至少有兩個顯著的特徵：一、其靈性觀中濃厚的個人主義色彩，彰顯西方社會和文化領域內日益成長的個人主義，擴張到了宗教領域，個人的靈性追求不再局限於制度宗教的範圍。二、新時代運動的內涵突顯晚近西方社會文化中，一種去中心、多元化與折衷主義的變遷趨勢。對此一運動之深入解析，有助於窺探晚近歐美社會文化之變化外，並可檢視此一宗教／靈性思潮之引進與流行於台灣，對台灣社會宗教發展之可能影響。

The New Age Movement emerged in Western society in the late 1960s, and it is a movement that brings together religion, spirituality, psychology, health practices, environmental concerns, etc. After two or three decades, the New Age Movement has had tremendous growth and become part of mainstream culture. Nevertheless, it has also expanded to other countries. This paper clarifies its basic ideas, contents, and the unique characteristics of this movement. The popularity of New Age ideas and practices signifies the enhancement of individualism in religion, i.e. spiritual practices are no longer limited to institutional religions. Furthermore, the New Age Movement displays de-centered, multiple, and eclectic trend of socio-cultural change. The investigation of the New Age Movement helps us to examine the characteristics of socio-cultural changes. It also provides a new perspective to observe the social changes of other societies due to the global effects of New Age Movement.
