The purpose of this survey study was to investigate asthmatic adolescents' self-management intentions and related predictive factors. The conceptual framework with Attitude, Social influences, and Self-efficacy model (ASE model) was applied in the study. Using cluster sampling, junior high students with asthma from 7 of Kaohsiung City's 34 junior high schools were invited to participate in this study. Data was collected with structured questionnaires including self-management intention/asthma attitude/social influences/self-efficacy. A total of 204 valid questionnaires were completed. Results indicated a significant positive relationship between self-management intention and the variables of asthma attitude, social influences, and self-efficacy. The study also found a negative relationship between hospitalization and self-management intention. Asthma attitude, social influences, self-efficacy, and hospitalization in the previous year were identified as significant predictors of asthmatic adolescents' self-management intentions, accounting for 39.7% of total variance. These findings can serve as a reference for clinical healthcare providers and school nurses to foster more effective self-management programs for adolescents with asthma and can provide a fundamental basis for further interventional research.
