The aim of this qualitative study was to explore the subjective experiences of career women with regard to breastfeeding their infant in public places. A convenient sample of 12 breastfeeding women who had given birth at least four months before participating in this study and breastfed in public was recruited. In-depth interviews were audiotaped, transcribed verbatim, and analyzed using content analysis. Four underlying themes identified by this study included (1) facing difficulties in due to spatial arrangements; (2) breastfeeding in a breastfeeding-unfriendly environment; (3) altering daily routines; and (4) developing breastfeeding strategies for public areas. The results of this study may provide critical guidance to health policymakers for their regulation and improvement of breastfeeding facilities in public areas and the reestablishment of a supportive breastfeeding culture in Taiwan.
