Three Main Steps of Chinese Management

摘要

華人管理，由於華人特有的習性，必須在技巧上有所不同，以求與當地的風土人情相結合。中華民族五千多年的歷史，已經累積豐富的管理經驗，歸納起來，可以用兩難、兼顧、合理六個字來表示。兩難是華人管理的起點，凡事站在兩難的出發點，比較容易慎始，不致一切照規定或者完全依循慣例，反而忽略了內外變數，造成不合宜的決策。兼顧的意思是儘量不要二選一，在兩個極端之中決定其中的一個，而是儘量二合一，把各種相關可能性綜合起來考慮，尋求合理的平衡點。由於合理不合理，很不容易論定。所以只要有時間，華人可能採取能拖就拖的策略，不急著做決定。但是時間不許可，一定要解決的時候，華人也會當機立斷，做出決定。合理不合理，自時間和空間的限制條件和事情的性質，合併考慮。綜合在一起，比較有效。

In line with the characteristic Chinese tradition, Chinese utilize a unique decision technique by fusing its traditional management philosophy with local traditions and customs. Chinese management philosophy results from the long and illustrious five-thousand-year history of the Chinese civilization. The resulting management philosophy can be depicted by the following steps: first understanding the management dilemma, then considering all points of view, and finally reaching a reasonable decision. Chinese management philosophy starts with the understanding of the dilemma. It is always easier to formulate a solution based on previous experience or existing protocol. Facing the dilemma head on will be more challenging. However, a manager should contemplate additional external or internal factors to better make decisions and achieve solutions. Once we understand the dilemma, we need to examine all points of view before we come up with a decision or solution. An appropriate decision or solution should try to satisfy multiple viewpoints. A win-win approach to any decision or solution is more reasonable and considerate. Unfortunately, it is not always easy to arrive at a win-win and reasonable decision or solution. If the timing is not a factor. Most Chinese prefer to be patient. Conversely, Chinese can be very decisive if a decision or solution has to be made or presented. Ultimately, a decision or solution is more effective if we can consider the constraints imposed by all timing and environment attributes and applying rational judgment.
