文章與人品並臻-鄭用鑑散文的道德理念與實踐

The Orientation of Composition and Virtue. A Study on Virtueof Ideas and Practices within Zheng-Yong Jian's Prose

摘要


鄭用鑑(1789-1867),新竹人,是清代中葉之碩儒,主講明志書院三十年,積極推動北臺灣的文教,日本樺山總督稱他為「學界山斗」。他教導學生,特別重視學生的品德涵養。而他一生的行事,也是以德行為依歸,不論是自我修身、人情倫理或是治國安邦上,都以道德為最高原則。除了在日常生活上極力實踐道德外,用鑑的散文也存在著許多以道德為主旨的作品,清楚地傳達其道德理念。綜觀這些現象我們可以明白,對於用鑑的研究勢不能忽略道德層面之探討。本文的研究,即是針對用鑑的道德理念以及實踐情形進行分析。了解其道德理念以及實踐情形後,除了可提供用鑑學術與事功的研究基礎外,也能讓我們了解這位畢生致力於教育工作的大儒,為當時的北臺灣注入了何種的道德文化。

Zheng-Yong jian was born in Xinzhu, and taught at Mingzh Academy for thirty years. He dedicated himself to promoting the cultural cultivation in Northern Taiwan. When he educated his students, he would prefer to preach about morality. Good moral principles were the cornerstone of his life no matter what he did, from his behavior and attitude to those with whom he socialized to the statecrafts he suggested. In addition to putting morality into practice in his own life, Zheng-Yong jian's prose works also conveyed a great deal of his moral beliefs. Hence, it becomes necessary to not neglect the moral principles within Zheng-Yong jian's works when studying them critically. This project endeavors to analyze the ethical thoughts and practices within Zheng-Yong jian's work. This effort will accomplish both the academic goal of a critical research into the works of this profound Taiwanese scholar, while at the same time it will also give us an understanding into the ethical culture which Zheng-Yong jian had brought to Northern Taiwan.
