The New Bush Administration's Policy toward East Asia

並列摘要

After winning the presidential election with 51 percent of the vote in early November 2004, President George W. Bush may gain confidence that American foreign policy direction in his first term is on the right track and most Americans would support him. Although Secretary of State Colin Powell reiterated that Washington would embark on a policy of working multilaterally with allies after the election, many believe that President Bush and conservative hardliners, in reality, are expected to embark on a tougher stand and continue to pursue a unilateralist approach to face the foreign policy challenges which emerged from his first-term of the presidency, such as the war in Iraq, the war on terrorism, the Israel-Palestine conflict, the threat of the Iranian and North Korean nuclear programs.
