This study examined applying the theory of planned behavior (TPB) to predict the use of Taoyuan bicycle lanes for exercise and recreation intentions. In addition, the moderating effect of leisure involvement and a depressed mood on the relationship between the three TPB factors and intentions for exercise and leisure was considered. During July to September 2013, a sample of 849 bicycle-lane users completed questionnaires regarding the influence of TPB factors on exercise and recreation intentions. Using moderated hierarchical regression analysis, we evaluated the general relationships between individual TPB factors and the intention to exercise and recreate. We then investigated how the two primary types of exercise-moderating factor (leisure involvement and depressed mood) influenced the relationships between the TPB factors and the exercise/ recreation intentions. Significant findings were determined for a number of the relationships, and management implications were identified.
