When talking about Li Cing-Jhao's works, people primarily focus on her lyrics; very few touch upon her poems. Nevertheless, the profound connotations and distinguishing characteristics embodied in her poems should not be ignored. This study aims to analyze the connotations and presentation techniques of the poems by Li Cing-Jhao. As a female, the researcher tries to reveal the feminine characteristics of Li's poems, by examining the literary tradition as well as the differences between male and female writers' notions and sentiments. Taking this as a foundation, the researcher concludes that the patriotic passion and the sadness accompanying national misfortune that are demonstrated in Li's works, were not related to a scholar-official's worrying about the predicament of the dynasty, nor an intellectual's sorrow concerning the obstacles faced by an official. The poems carry a tone of grief, mourning for the broken family and deceased family members. Li's works still remained family oriented, and full of feminine values as well as the author's individual self-spirit.
