The purpose of the research was to investigate the relationships between the performance of patient education and satisfaction with subordinates in nurse staffs. The research objects of nursing staff were sampled form the Metropolitan Teaching Hospital in Changhua County, Taiwan. Stratified random sampling method was used for this study. The survey by questionnaires form 80 Head Nurses separately rated the performance about five nurses belong to her team. The valid samples were356 (83.8%) in 400 samples. The results showed that nursing supervisors had highly praised on the competencies of their nursing team members about "Control and Rapport", "Explaining", "Active listening" and "Influencing" of patient education. And these four competencies dimensions positively affected their satisfaction with subordinates. Comprehensive consideration the competencies of the patient education, nursing supervisors most emphasis on "influence" and "explaining" of two patient education functions.
